WET WEATHER & FLEDGLINGS/MINIROOS

24 Jun by Admin

We are often asked whether MiniRoos and Fledglings games that are washed out due to wet weather are postponed or replayed later, as is the case with our Junior competition games.

To clarify: No, MiniRoos and Fledglings games are not rescheduled. These programs are non-competitive and cancellations due to wet weather are accounted for in the season structure and fees.

On average, 3–4 rounds are lost each year to poor weather, and this is reflected in the fee difference between Junior and MiniRoos players – Junior fees are approximately $100 higher per player, largely due to the need to replay competition fixtures.

Junior teams are part of formal competitions where all matches must be completed to preserve the integrity of the premiership ladder. These games are rescheduled using allocated wet weather weekends or played mid-week under lights if necessary.

In contrast, MiniRoos and Fledglings games are not replayed. The volume of games and limited field availability make mid-week rescheduling unfeasible. Additionally, the season cannot be extended as many clubs share fields with summer sports, and all football activities must conclude by the spring school holidays.

While we understand the disappointment caused by cancellations, particularly early in the season – including two washed-out weekends at Dittmer Park this year – we remain hopeful for fine weather across the remaining rounds.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
